We live in an age of wonder, where four-cylinder turbo engines are packing almost 200 horsepower more than a 1975 Corvette's V8 lump. Currently, AMG holds the "record" at 355hp for their turbo four, but that's unlikely to last too long. So where do you think the Focus RS will net out? Here's a short list I've compiled of its primary cross-shop competition:
Fiesta ST: 197hp/202tq
GTI: 210-220hp/258tq
Focus ST: 252hp/270tq
WRX: 268hp/258tq
Golf R: 290-6hp/280tq
Audi S3: 292hp/280tq
STI: 305hp/290tq
AMG CLA: 355hp/332tq
Audi RS3 (5-cyl): 362hp/343tq
So, where do you think the Focus RS will slot in?
Interesting to note: all the cars on the list above 260hp have AWD. I know most outlets are reporting the RS will have AWD, but I think this is a pretty good indicator too.

I hope to see 350+hp and 300+tq

Is that a shoop or is that real?! Looks like an STi.

It's a rendering that Autoexpress.co.uk has been using. Looks better than this one:

If this were any other company than I would agree it might be AWD but Ford love putting stupid amounts of power through the front wheels so who knows.
My guess it will stay FWD and go after the ring record since between Seat, Renault and Honda the FWD record contest is heating up and I'm sure Ford would like a bit of that.

I think we can expect at least the 305hp/300 lb-ft that the mustang with the same engine has. as far as AWD goes, I think they kinda have to, seeing as the ST is torque limited in 1st and 2nd and still smokes the fronts.

I think it depends on whether they are going to have AWD or FWD. If it is FWD I would see somewhere right around 300hp +/- 10. That would give them good separation from the ST and still have somewhat manageable torque steer.
If they do go with AWD as rumored I think you'll see around 325 +/- 10 hp. That would handily outdo the STI now and probably be right in line with where I would expect the STI to end up in the next couple of model years. And lets not kid ourselves, if they do go AWD it is clearly aimed at the STI.

I'd bet Ford does some corporate BS and uses the 2.3 EB but have it make a few less ponies. So 305HP and 320lbft.

Well, the Mustang Ecoboost 2.3L is at 310 hp and 320 torque. I expect it to be around there, maybe a tad lower. So my guess is 300 HP and 315 Torque. They already said they planned on using the 2.3L didn't they?

It will slot in under the Mustang Ecoboost. If the ST has 252hp I would expect the RS to make just under or over 300hp. Probably 290hp.

I see it having at least as much horsepower as the old one, so at least 305. And having more would leave too much a gap with the ST. They could probably give it around 350 hp though. We now the differential they used on the last RS was able to channel that much power (look at the C30 Polestar or the RS500).

Why would it have to? Ecoboost standard mustangs start at $26K and premium $29K (near the price of an ST3), and the RS is expected to net around $35K.

I don't think Ford is going to have a Focus eclipse the Mustang in performance. That wouldn't make sense for them. We'll probably see around 5.5s to 60mph and just under 300hp. Ford is not going to lose V8 Mustang sales to the Focus RS.

Two completely different markets. Not too many will cross shop the RS with a Mustang. If that was the case those people would also be in the market for other high performance hatches.

They don't care about that gap as much as you think. I think 325+ hp is where the sweet spot begins. You have to remember there's over a 100hp gap between the Ecoboostang and the 5.0 already.

There's a member of this forum that has FoST and is currently looking into a Mustang 5.0. I agree they're different markets, but I still don't think we're going to get a 350hp Focus in the US, considering we've never gotten the good stuff from EuroFord before.

But as you can see that's an upgrade to the FoST. He's craving more power. Besides why would they hold back on a top of the range Focus? Might as well let all the ponies fly. Besides they'd actually make more selling someone a loaded RS. More choices are a good thing. It's the fastest 4 door Ford shall give us since they refuse to just give us a Ford Falcon to fight against the Charger. Honestly that's all I want. A four door Mustang with all the same engine choices. Dodge does it with the Charger and Challenger and Chevy has a 4 door Camaro in the SS. If I could get a 5.0 in a sedan I'd immediately go into debt within the next hour.

TopGear predicts it'll be around the 330-340bhp mark for the 2.3litre EcoBoost

Yeah for sure. The one you posted is a little aggressive for my taste, but it's still great looking. That green one is just blah.

Yeah, I think I read in Autocar that they were going to use the Mustang's I4

Yeah so this should be a pretty easy game to figure out, I think they'll keep it a hair under the Mustang's numbers just because Mustang vs Focus.

Seeing as the last one boasted 305 bhp, something North of that.

Ford is only going to give us the Taurus SHO. Also I don't think they make more on a Focus than a Mustang.
